MSM Band Takes Disney!
The MSM Marching Band and Dance Team – 120 members strong – spent Spring Break at Walt Disney World.
The highlight of the trip was the group’s performance in the Magic Kingdom Parade as they marched right down Main Street, USA.
The girls were cheered on by an audience from all over the world – as well as many of their own family and friends and even MSM Principal Dawn Riggie, who all made the trip.
Watch for the Marching Band at its next appearance at the Kenmore Memorial Day Parade!

Pick Flowers Not Fights
Mount St. Mary students and faculty recently completed an art project in conjunction with MSM alumna Mrs. Catherine Ward and her art students at St. Joe’s. The group worked on "Peace Murals" for a project run by Buffalo ReUse.
Participants spent a week after school at St. Joes and worked together to finish ten different 4'x8' murals. Our team of artists developed original drawings and painted them in a very short time period.
The panels were displayed at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum in Buffalo before finding new homes on abandoned houses in the City.
Congratulations on a job well done to:

Class of 2009 Receive Rings
The Mount St. Mary Academy community gathered on December 7 to celebrate one of the school’s most cherished traditions – Junior Ring Ceremony at Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
Bishop Edward Kmiec celebrated his first Mass at Mount St. Mary, making the event even more memorable.
Members of the Class of 2009 received their rings and red roses from Principal Mrs. Dawn Riggie ’71. Several students carried on another wonderful MSM tradition by receiving their class rings from a family member.
Congratulations to our Juniors!
Mount St. Mary Students Honored by National Merit Scholarship Corporation
Five Mount St. Mary Academy seniors were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their performance on the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Hillary Hamp and Kelsey Kean were named 2008 National Merit Semifinalists and have advanced to the Finalist level. More than 1.4 million students in nearly 21,000 high schools took the PSAT/NMSQT. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which Hillary and Kelsey tested into, represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.
To become Finalists, students must demonstrate an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying test performance. Approximately 15,000 Semifinalists will advance to the Finalist level. From this group, all Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen. This announcement is expected in Spring, 2008.
Laura Jakiel, Rebecca Hurley and Sara Shimmel were named National Merit Commended Students based on scoring among the top 50,000 students in the United States on the PSAT/NMSQT. Commended Students do not continue on in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, but some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships granted by other corporations and businesses.
“I am so proud of our students who were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation,” said Dawn Riggie, Mount St. Mary Academy principal. “This is a wonderful tribute to the years of hard work and determination they have demonstrated as students at Mount St. Mary.”
Mount St. Mary Academy, founded by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1927, is an all-girls, Catholic college-preparatory high school located at 3756 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore.
