Mount St. Mary Academy honored distinguished members of the school community at the 2010 Baccalaureate Mass and Alumnae Award Ceremony. The Alumnae of the Year Award was presented to Sr. Marian Baumler, SSMN and Class of 1958 for her continued support of the school.

Baumler served as principal of Mount St. Mary Academy from 1974 - 1979 as well as teaching in the school's Math Department. Currently, she is the director of Adult Formation at St. Christopher's Parish and is the Provincial Councilor for the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur.

The Alumnae of the Year Award recognizes an individual who exhibits the virtues that Mount St. Mary Academy was founded on: Scholarship, Acceptance, Integrity, Tradition, Service, Values, Respect and Nurturing. Sr. Marian was selected by an alumnae committee who thank her for her years of service in the fields of education and spiritual development, as well as being a role model of Mount St. Mary spirit.

Additionally honored at the ceremony were Diana Jo Ponticello, a long-time member of the Mount St. Mary administrative team and Dr. Susan Kowalewski, a parent of Junior Allison Kowalewski and faculty member of D'Youville College.

Ponticello was awarded the Honorary Alumna of the Year award, given to individuals who exemplify the school's spirit and live according to the school mission. Ponticello was inducted into the Alumnae Association for her years of selfless service to the Mount.

Kowalewski received the Volunteer of the Year award for her initiation and development of the school's Leadership through Education and Development (LEAD), a program designed to introduce students to leadership opportunities. Kowalewski has additionally volunteered at the school, working to raise funding for the development of the school's athletic program.

Mount St. Mary Academy, founded by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1927, is an all-girls, Catholic college-preparatory high school located at 3756 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore. Mount St. Mary's is ranked in the top 5% of all Western New York high schools.
