Thu, May 13th 2010 10:45 am
Amy Nizialek, a Mount St. Mary Academy junior, was recognized by the Town of Tonawanda Youth Bureau for her work in the community. Nizialek received the Outstanding Youth Award at the Town's annual Award and Recognition Dinner on May 11.

The Outstanding Youth award recognizes a town resident who works hard to raise the self-esteem of others and who is committed to volunteer service in her school and community.

Nizialek has completed 200 hours of community service, including participating with Youth Engaged in Service (YES) to volunteer in nursing homes and St. Andrew's Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) where she worked with middle school children. She has additionally been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Bronze Award which recognizes young adults who serve the community.

"Amy is an excellent role-model for young women, demonstrating to her peers the importance of giving back," says Dawn Riggie, principal of Mount St. Mary Academy. "We're proud to have her as a part of our student community."

Mount St. Mary Academy, founded by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur, is an all-girls, Catholic college-preparatory high school located at 3756 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore. Mount St. Mary's is ranked in the top 5% of all Western New York high schools.
