Mount rolls to 5-1
The Mount St. Mary girls basketball team is off to a phenomenal start this year, improving to 5-1 with a 56-43 win over visiting Immaculata. The triumph over last year's state Independent Schools semifinalist is Mount's second eye-opening win in as many outings. The Thunder earned a 41-32 win over Nardin on Monday, the first time it has beaten the Gators in 10 years.

Mount St. Mary went 5-18 last year but has six seniors and added three freshmen to the mix for second-year coach Steve Gathers' squad — which uses multiple offensive and defensive sets. The team played lots of ball during the summer time in an attempt to get the system down, according to assistant coach Pat Kanalley.

"Last year we came on board and the girls were just working into the system," assistant coach Pat Kanalley said. "We played a lot of summer ball ... lot of [girls] playing AAU. We've been doing it the whole year and they're getting better."

Aaron Shabazz (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Jasmine Shabazz (10 points, 11 rebounds) each had double-doubles for the Thunder, which led, 25-12, at halftime.
