The Arts are alive at Mount St. Mary Academy! We offer full instrumental and vocal music programs including a concert band, jazz ensemble, string orchestra, and the first all-girls' marching band in New York State. In-school lessons and outside performance opportunities for instrumental and vocal musicians are available throughout the year. MSM Band Marches Off to NYC!

The MSM Marching Band was invited for the second time in three years to perform in the New York City St. Patrick's Day parade. It's the largest parade in the world, and it attracted more than 6 million viewers on the street and on television. In 2005 and 2007, MSM student-musicians made the 40-block trek up 5th Avenue and represented us well at the parade.

Annual fall musicals, featuring the singing, dancing and acting skills of our students and young men from other area schools, are a Mount St. Mary tradition. This year, from November 9-11, we'll be performing "The Wizard of Oz." Mount St. Mary productions showcase the talents of our students and young men from other high schools and are held in our own beautiful auditorium, which features seating for 1000, dressing rooms, professional lighting and sound and a large costume room. Students may choose to study dramatic techniques in our Theaterworks class.

We offer singers the opportunity to join our vocal performing ensembles. Freshmen can elect to participate in Freshman Chorus, while sophomores through seniors may perform in a more advanced ensemble. These classes count towards fulfilling Fine Arts requirements. We also have an a cappella group, The Gemtones, which meets after school and creates its own musical arrangements. Vocal groups perform at school concerts as well as at our annual Coffee House show. Handbells and music theory classes are also available.

An extensive visual arts program is available at Mount St. Mary Academy, as well. Student courses in drawing, painting, graphic design, ceramics, crafts and studio art are offered. Portfolio Preparation is available for those students intersted in pursuing a degree in Fine Arts or design.

Students are able to study dance as part of their Fine Arts or Physical Education curriculum. A full size dance studio, our beautiful auditorium and unmatched professionalism make the Arts experience at Mount St. Mary Academy unbeatable.
